First tried this on 26 December 2023 and ordered medium sliced fish porridge (S$7) [photos 1 to 3] and absolutely loved this! Sliced fish was substantial, fresh and meaty. Soup was wholesome but flavorful and there was dried sole fish too.
Was yearning for this and returned the next day 27 December 2023 for lunch where I ordered medium sliced fish bee hoon soup (S$7) [photos 5 & 6]. Interestingly, there wasn’t any dried sole fish.
Overall I prefer the sliced fish porridge. Totally understand why there’s always a long queue - because this is indeed delicious, fresh and substantial portion and cheap!
Came at around 1:30pm on a Tuesday and the queue was snaking long, w about 25-30 people in front of me.
Took about 15mins to get my food so I would say the queue moves pretty fast.
I ordered a Medium sized sliced fish soup (SGD7). It came w 10 pieces of sliced fish in various sizes and thicknesses. The thinnest slice is still considerably thick.
I get why this stall is so popular. The fish slices were v fresh w no hint of fishiness, v 鲜甜.
I’d actually rate it a 4.5/5, -0.5 because the pepper and coriander added at the end overpowered the whole soup. Would request to opt out of them next time.
Huge $7 bowl of fish soup using thick slices of batang fish (batang as is mackerel fish ). Soup may look light but it's good and tasty.
Value for money. Worth every $.
Normal to see line of 20 - 30 pax in queue at anytime you visit, but moves fast.
Tip: be ready to order and money ready as soon as the lady comes down the queue to take your order. Don't ask for extra bowl of rice or chilli or change your order. U will know what I meant when you see a first timer patronising this stall and get schooled by the no nonsense lady.
But no choice, the food is cheap and good so bear with it.
Super big chunks of fish slices. The soup is flavorful, and the fish is very fresh. The fish is marinated with salt, which makes it even tastier. Affordable price too. Long queue when I was there at 11am, weekday. Waited for almost an hour.
Came this morning at 10.30 am and there was already a queue of about 30 people before me. The cooking started about 5 minutes later and the line move quickly.
The lady came down the line to take order and payment from about 8 to 10 people at a time. It's amazing that she doesn't need to take notes and yet she gets all the orders perfectly.
For $5, you get 7 slices of thick batang fish.
The fish is fresh and not fishy. The soup is clear but tasty. Value for money. This is definitely one of the best fish soup in Singapore.
Every minutes lining up at the queue is worth the while for early lunch. It is no wonder the queue grow fast and long extended to at least 10 stalls away. Look at the thick sliced fish, considering current economic situation, anyone would be surprised to learn that this bowl of Fish Noodle cost me only SGD5. Every bite of the thick sliced fish demonstrated the sincerity of the stall owner in serving the food to his customers. Soup was clear and overall combination beat all the rest of the fish stall I had tried so far. Also, Amazingly too, his assistant can memorise all the customers’ orders who are patiently lining up in the queue before she bounce the customers order back to the preparation end. She can easily recorded as many as 20 or more customers’ orders, without a single error. First timer with Han Kee Fish Soup and looking forward to many more queues in the future.
The price vs the quality and quantity is worth it. Very worth it in fact. Despite the long queue. It took about 10mins with 5 people infront of me.
The only problem is probably the service. They tend to collect money all the way 20+ queue from their store without able to see wad to order expecting customer to know what they sell. The aunty's will also give u a death stare and don't you even dare talk back to her as she will stop at nothing to counter u back.
But overall for this price of 6 and 8 dollars for small and medium it's really worth if u come for the food. This Batang fish is much better than many others. I only tried this store because Piao Ji is not open.
one of the best fish soup you can find in singapore with such fresh and thick slices of fish. the soup was just taste so fresh and flavourful and didn’t feel fattening or salty at all. i ordered the $7 portion and just look at my video, there are generous with the fish :)
